Normal Pregnancy

At Clinic for Women, we understand that pregnancy is a unique and exciting time in a woman's life. We want to ensure that you have the best possible care during this important time. Our team of highly trained and experienced obstetricians provide comprehensive obstetrical care for both normal, low-risk pregnancies and for certain high-risk pregnancy issues.

During your pregnancy, our team will closely monitor your progress to ensure that you and your baby are healthy and safe. We will work with you to create a personalized care plan that meets your individual needs and preferences. Our goal is to provide you with the highest level of care possible, so that you can enjoy a healthy pregnancy and a safe delivery.

We are proud to deliver babies at Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children, which has North Alabama’s only Level III NICU and offers an OB-GYN Emergency Department, Maternal Fetal Medicine services, and 24/7 Anesthesia services.

Schedule of Visits

Your first prenatal visit will be around 6-8 weeks.  During this visit, you will have an in-office ultrasound.  We will discuss any further testing that is relevant to you and your pregnancy as well as draw prenatal labs.

A typical schedule for prenatal appointments as recommended by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists is as follows:

  • Weeks 6-28: Appointments every 4-6 weeks

    • Gender ultrasound at 16 weeks (optional; additional fee)

    • Fetal anatomy ultrasound at 19-21 weeks

    • Screening for gestational diabetes

  • Weeks 28-36: Appointments every 2-4 weeks

    • 4D ultrasound at 28-30 weeks (optional;  additional fee)

    • Tdap vaccine

    • Rhogam for Rh negative patients

  • After Week 36: Weekly

What to Expect During Your Prenatal Visit

At a prenatal checkup visit, our providers may 

  • Check a urine sample

  • Check blood pressure, weight, and height

  • Discuss exercise, weight gain, nutrition, and lifestyle habits

  • Perform blood tests

  • Check the fetal heart rate

  • Perform fetal ultrasound

  • Answer questions or concerns

In addition to management of the normal prenatal course, we also specialize in the following obstetrical services:

  • Ultrasounds for dating, growth, anomalies, and fetal well-being

  • Non-stress tests to measure fetal well-being

  • Screening tests for chromosomal anomalies and genetic disorders
